4th Annual Blood Drive 2014, concluded today successfully.
It was jointly organized by Lions Club of Berkeley Annapurna and Blood Donors of America, California Chapter supported by American Red Cross, Northern California Blood Service Region. It kicked off with Rajendra Lohani who was the first to register at 8:00 AM. This is the first time the Lions Club of Berkeley Annapurna ever partnered in its Annual Blood drive. The President of Lions Club of Berkeley Annapurna Lion Tilak Sunar welcomed all participants and donors and thanked everyone for supporting the Blood Drive. The Central Board of Director Lion Chandra Dhital, who is also the first Program Coordinator of Annual Blood Drive and the Past President of the club, said that these two organizations will work together in the years to come. The California Chapter Coordinator Iswor Sapkota indicated that The Blood Donors of America, California Chapter is willing to partner with other local organizations who want to donate blood. In spite of clashes of programs, complicated time schedule and new coordinator in Blood Center, the turnout was satisfactory. President Elect of Lions Club of Berkeley Annapurna and the program coordinator of 4th Annual Blood Drive Lion HemaPaneru said there were almost 75 people who visited the center offering donations and 50 of the perspective donors had to return back because the registration closed at 3:45 PM. The donors who registered kept donating till 4:30 PM. The donors who had to return and were not able to donate this time will be given space next Saturday May, 31, 2014 which will still be credited to the organizers.
The major organizer Lions Club of Berkeley Annapurna that was founded by the Charter President Rajen Thapa in 2006, has been a prestigious service organization not only among the Nepalese community but also among the Lions clubs in the district 4C3 and beyond. The first Blood Drive was organized four years ago during the tenure of Past President Ramchandra Dhakal. It has continued through the years. The past president Lion Ramchandra Dhakal, Past President Lion Chinkaji Shrestha, Past President Lion Chandra Dhital, Past President Lion Laxmi Chaudhary and Charter Secretary and Past President Mani Nepali Paneru were among the donors and participants.
The Blood Donors of America founded by the Blood Donation Tycoon Arjun Prasad Mainali has opened chapters in considerable number of States. The California Chapter is led by a popular Social worker and Founder President of Sunny Sagarmatha Samaj. Iswor Sapkota, there are important personalities involved in the various walks of life. The personalities include Prem Lama: (San Francisco); Madan Maharjan: (Santa Rosa); Yuba Raj Bhatta: (Castro Valley); Dilip Karki: (South San Francisco); Radha Devi Sharma: El Cerrito); Jeevan Sigdel: (Sunnyvale); Bikram Thapa,(LA) Uttam Thapa: (LA); Tika Ram Subedy: (Woodland); Sunita Sapkota Kadel.
The participants and donors were presented with Certificates of Donation and Certificate of Participation. The president of Lions Club of Berkeley Annapurna Lion Tilak Sunar, Central Board of Director of Blood Donors of America and Past President of Lions Club of Berkeley Annapurna Chandra Dhital, BDA CA Chapter Coordinator Iswor Sapkota, Charter President Rajen Thapa, President Elect of the club and the Program Coordinator of 4th Annual Blood Drive 2014, Lion Hema Paneru along with the Account manager and supervisor of American Red Cross, Northern California Blood Service Region Joey Jopsky distributed the Certificate of Donations and Certificate. The participants were very satisfied with the management and expressed that they felt good to donate blood that would contribute to save at least two dying brothers or sisters around the world.
The program Coordinator Lion Hema Paneru has thanked, all the participants, donors and volunteers to make the event happen and requested all the perspective donors to come back next Saturday and donate their precious blood.
